Hot for the Cold! – Tahini Hot Chocolate

We are dealing with our first cold week of the season as well as of the new year. It wasn’t bitter cold (thankfully!), but it was cold enough for me to long for the warmer months of the year. And cold enough for me to crave some hot chocolate after being outside. But not just any old hot chocolate. Some with a definite out-there twist to it!

Tahini is a paste made from toasted sesame seeds that is widely used in Middle Eastern cooking as a topping for meat and vegetables. It is the ingredient that gives hummus that distinctive flavor. I had some tahini in the fridge from when I was trying my hand at homemade hummus a while back. Tahini has also played a minor role in some other recipes we have made. But I had never considered using it as part of anything other than savory dishes. Until now. Now that I’ve experienced the versatility of tahini, I expect it will be making encore appearances in other sweet treats I post!
