Bourbon Heritage Month – Bourbon & Ginger Cocktail

September is almost over with, so my final post for this month is a bourbon cocktail in honor of Bourbon Heritage Month. As with so many other ‘National Food’ days or months, Bourbon Heritage Month is about raising interest in bourbon. We didn’t really need any help on that level, as we all enjoy the fermented mash of grain, (at least 51% of the grain must be corn to be considered bourbon) yeast, and water. But finding new ways to enjoy a favored food item is always a welcome experience.

Here, bourbon is combined with elderflower liqueur for some floral sweetness that is balanced with some lemon juice, for a bit of tartness. Ginger is added into the mix to add some Fall flavored flair to the libation. Two forms of ginger are used here. The cocktail is topped off with ginger beer, an intensely ginger flavored carbonated beverage with a spicy kick. Candied ginger is added as a garnish for even more of a sweet and spicy bite. This is my Autumn cocktail of choice!
