Festive Starter – Cranberry Goat Cheese Log

My introduction to goat cheese occurred just before the birth of this blog. We were living in a rural area of Connecticut, surrounded by many small farms, each with unique products for sale specific to their farm. The goat farm was one of the closest to our home and we often bought flavored goat cheeses from their on-site store.

While we now live almost a thousand miles away from that farm, my passion for goat cheese lingers, as evidenced by the close to twenty recipes on this site featuring chevre. This one is a great festive appetizer perfect for a holiday party or gathering. We’ve done just that a few times already this season. A log of goat cheese is rolled in a mixture of chopped, dried cranberries, nuts, and parsley then placed on a bed of cranberry sauce and served with crackers. It’s simple and delicious and oh, so festive!

Remove the goat cheese from the fridge and remove it from the wrapper, preserving the log shape. Allow it to soften to room temperature. Warm up the cranberry sauce just enough to make it spreadable and spread it on a cheese tray or serving platter.

Chop the nuts and cranberries and mix them together along with the parsley.

Combine the dried cranberries with the nuts, and parsley.

Roll the goat cheese log in the mixture, pressing the nut mixture gently in place on the goat cheese.

Roll the goat cheese log in the fruit & nut mixture.

Set the covered goat cheese log atop the cranberry sauce on the serving platter.

Add the goat cheese log to the platter of cranberry sauce.

Sprinkle orange zest over the top of the log. Serve the goat cheese log with bruschetta chips, bagels chips, or crackers.

Top with orange zest and serve with crackers.

Refrigerate the log until needed, allowing 1/2 hour for it to come to room temperature before serving. Refrigerate any leftovers.
