St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations – Shamrock Sour Cocktail

It’s been more than 15 years since I have had the pleasure of visiting Ireland, the land of my ancestors. The trip was a heritage tour for myself, my mother, my two sisters and my daughter, Kelly. (Kelly was 12-years old at the time and not the adventurous eater she is now. She ate pasta every night of our trip.) While I tried to sample a variety of Irish cuisine, I often ate salmon and potatoes, both favorites of mine, and both popular items on Irish menus. Beer is popular in Ireland, as it is here, but I prefer whiskey. I developed my taste for whiskey in college, and became partial to Irish whiskey when we visited the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, on that Ireland trip, all those years ago. Established in 1608, Bushmills is the oldest working distillery in Ireland. The tour was informative, and ended in the tasting room. There were samples of desserts made with Bushmills products along with a whiskey tasting option. I’ve been a fan of their Irish whiskey ever since!

Naturally, when St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday Pizza & Martini night, a cocktail recipe is in order. In celebration of our family’s Irish heritage and St. Patrick’s Day, we’re serving up Irish whiskey in our cocktails tonight to go along with our pizza!
