When Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday, I have to offer up a red-hued martini in this space. Since before this blog originated, Fridays have been our pizza & martini nights. Recently, we’ve gotten away from martinis with our pizzas on the last workday of the week, but Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to bring it back. At least for this Friday night!
Pomegranate juice gives this cocktail its seasonal cheery red glow. The flavor of this seed filled berry is a cross between cranberries and raspberries. Orange liqueur tempers the tart and tangy flavor of the juice with a touch of sweetness. Vermouth balances out the sweet and brings a dry, slightly bitter, botanical flavor to the drink. Add the punch of vodka to it and you have a wonderful libation to share on Valentine’s Day!
