It is Mother’s Day weekend and I am taking full advantage of that fact and enjoying some of my favorite things! That includes what I drink for the Mother’s Day brunch or lunch I expect to have with Andrew and Eric. (They haven’t actually shared any plans with me, but I am hoping they have are planning to spend the day with me. (Really Subtle HINT here!) This cocktail contains two liqueurs that I always have on hand, Grand Marnier and St~Germain.
Grand Marnier is a blend of cognac and bitter orange liqueur. It is spicier, more complex, and deeper in flavor than Cointreau or Triple Sec, the other two orange liqueurs. A little goes a long way in the flavor department. I bought my first bottle of it twenty years ago for a frozen dessert recipe. Ever since first making that decadent dessert, (which I just discovered I have never posted on this forum!) Grand Marnier has had a spot in our liquor cabinet.
My love for St~Germain is well documented. Seven cocktails containing it have been posted to this blog since my first taste of the elderflower liqueur in 2015. Created in 2007, St~Germain is made from a 100% elderflower infusion. The flavor and aroma profile of the ephemeral flowers contain notes reminiscent of peach, pear, grapefruit, and honeysuckle. Together with a bit of vodka and Champagne, these two liqueurs make a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration drink!
